Course Overview

As per guidelines of OSHAD-SF – CoP – 4.0 – First Aid and Medical Emergency Course Certification 

The Basic First Aid training meets OSHA and other federal and state regulatory requirements for training employees how to respond and care for medical emergencies at work. This course aims to teach candidates skills for responding to and managing an initial aid, help promote recovery and to prevent further worsening of the condition of the casualty. Many things such as learn how to manage bleeds, sprains, fractured bones, shock, and other first-aid situations will be covered.

Learning Objectives

Learners will be able to identify emergencies requiring immediate first aid.

Learners will Gain a mastery on how to demonstrate a fundamental understanding on how to manage different situations of casualties; respiratory, external bleeding, small cuts/bruises, strokes, seizures, bone fractures, heat stress/ hypothermia.

Course Outline

Day One

The following is the list of topics that the course covers including OSHAD guidelines:

• What is First Aid?

• Aim of First Aid

• How to approach the casualty for examination and first aid?

• How to examine the bleeding of casualty?

• Controlling blood loss with practical on doing bandage

• Checking for Responsiveness, airway and breathing

• Applying CPR Technique with AED defibrillation (BLS)

• Applying recovery position

• First aid for Heat Stress and understanding how to avoid heat stress during summer

• First Aid for Poisoning • Types of Burns and their First Aid

• First Aid for Shock

• Ways of Rescue of the casualty

Day Two

➢ Be able to assess an incident
➢ Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
➢ Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
➢ Know how to recognize and assist a casualty who is choking
➢ Administer first aid to a casualty with small cuts, grazes and bruises
➢ Be able to manage a casualty who is in physiological shock
➢ Be able to manage a casualty with a Low Blood Sugar
➢ Be able to manage a casualty with a Stroke
➢ First aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
➢ Be able to manage a casualty with Seizure
