Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAMs) techniques are used in the examination of plant to ensure that it is capable of producing its required output, whilst ensuring safe and economic operation. Studies may be carried out at any stage during the plant’s life but are most cost effective applied during design. RAM techniques used by RiskOSH include:
• Design audits to identify and resolve design weakness;
• Event tree/fault tree analysis;
• Reliability data capture and analysis;
• System availability simulation;
• Sensitivity analysis.
Such techniques have been used to evaluate a range of safety systems including ESD system reliability, availability of firewater systems and the optimization of maintenance tasks and intervals.
