Drilling Well Control

The Drilling Well Control course is designed to provide participants with a thorough understanding of well control principles, procedures, and techniques to prevent and manage wellbore influxes and blowouts during drilling operations. Well control is a critical aspect of drilling safety, and this course focuses on equipping participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively control well pressures and maintain well integrity.

Throughout the course, participants will learn about the fundamentals of well control, including the causes and indications of kicks (uncontrolled influxes of formation fluids into the wellbore) and blowouts (uncontrolled releases of formation fluids to the surface). They will understand the importance of well control equipment, such as blowout preventers (BOPs), choke and kill manifolds, and associated systems, in preventing and mitigating well control incidents.

Participants will gain insights into well control methods and techniques, including the primary and secondary well control methods. They will learn about drilling fluid properties, kick detection methods, well shut-in procedures, and pressure control calculations. Participants will also explore well control simulations and exercises to develop their decision-making and problem-solving skills in well control scenarios.

The course will cover well control equipment and its operation. Participants will understand the different components of a typical BOP stack, such as annular preventers, ram preventers, and diverters, and how they are deployed and operated in various well control situations. They will learn about well control drilling practices, such as drilling with casing and underbalanced drilling, and the associated well control considerations.

Participants will also gain insights into well control emergency response planning and coordination. They will learn about the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved in well control operations, as well as communication protocols, well control drills, and contingency planning. The course will emphasize the importance of teamwork, situational awareness, and rapid decision-making in well control emergencies.

Safety considerations are paramount in well control, and the course will cover risk assessment, hazard identification, and best practices to ensure the safety of personnel and the environment. Participants will understand the importance of well control certifications, competency assessments, and adherence to industry standards and regulations.

Drilling Essentials For Non-Drilling Professional.webp 1

By the end of the Drilling Well Control course, participants will have a comprehensive understanding of the principles, procedures, and techniques involved in drilling well control. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to prevent, detect, and respond to well control incidents effectively. This course is valuable for drilling engineers, drilling supervisors, rig personnel, and professionals involved in drilling operations who seek to enhance their expertise in well control.
