HAZOP Awareness

Course Overview

HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) is a widely used technique in the field of process safety to identify potential hazards and operational issues in a system or process. The primary goal of a HAZOP study is to systematically review the design and operation of a system or process to identify potential deviations from intended conditions that could result in adverse consequences.

During a HAZOP study, a team of experts from different disciplines such as process engineering, operations, maintenance, and safety, systematically examine each section of the process or system under review, and use a structured brainstorming approach to identify potential hazards and deviations from normal operating conditions. The team then evaluates the likelihood and consequences of each identified deviation and proposes appropriate measures to prevent or mitigate the potential harm.
