Course Description

Social Media addiction has become a social and public health problem especially among students and adults. The purpose of this course is to describe the social media addiction and discuss the process of treating Internet addiction by using cognitive behavioural therapy for students with social media addiction. There are many risk factors for social media addiction that involve socio-demographic, social, psychological factors, and Internet use practices. Many negative consequences result from social media addiction such as social withdrawal, lack of relationships with families and peers, and psychological problems including depression and anxiety. This course will help student counsellors in colleges and higher education institutions to assist and treat students through behaviour modification, cognitive restructuring, and harm reduction therapy.
